Clanmil Housing Wins Residential Development of the Year at Belfast Telegraph Property Awards 2025 Posted on 6 November 2025

Clanmil Housing has been named winner of the Residential Development of the Year Award, at the Belfast Telegraph Property Awards 2025 for its new Savoy apartment building in Bangor

The award, sponsored by Progressive Building Society, recognises the quality design and build standard of Clanmil’s new housing development that extends the existing Savoy complex in Bangor. The new scheme features 26 two-bedroom apartments for people aged 55 and over, combining modern design with Art Deco influences that reflect the heritage of the original Savoy building, a former hotel built in 1932. The new Savoy also marked a significant milestone for Clanmil - the completion of its 6,000th home.

Jan Sloan, Executive Director of Development and New Business at Clanmil Housing, said:
“This is a proud moment for us. We’re all about building homes and communities for people who need them. Being able to enhance the quality of the living environment for our existing customers in Bangor and The Savoy, while also welcoming new customers to a place they can call their own and truly make theirs, that’s what we’re all about. We’re delighted to be able to fulfil that mission.”

She continued:

“People are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the middle of a housing crisis, and our goal as a social enterprise is to deliver more homes, to get people off waiting lists and into places they can call home. Our role as landlords is to help those individuals sustain their tenancies and be part of the wider community into the future.

It’s a great privilege. What keeps us motivated in our business is seeing people move into good-quality homes they love and knowing that we’re improving lives.”

The award celebrates the collective effort of Clanmil and its project partners, McGarry-Moon Architects Ltd and Derryleckagh Contracts Ltd, in delivering a development that blends architectural heritage with modern living.

The development is supported by the Department for Communities and the Housing Executive’s ‘Housing for All’ Shared Housing Programme.

The Programme has its origins in the NI Executive Together: Building a United Community Strategy which reflects the Executive’s commitment to improving community relations and continuing the journey towards a more united and shared society.

A potential £2.8m of Housing Association Grant including Good Relations support will be invested in the shared housing development and associated five-year Good Relations Plan. Clanmil currently has 14 shared housing developments across Northern Ireland and is working in partnership with The Savoy Advisory Group stakeholders and with residents to develop the Good Relations plan as part of the development’s ‘shared’ ethos.
