Kind hearted tenants and staff at Clanmil Housing's Cullingtree Meadows, supported housing for people living with Dementia, off the Grosvenor Road, held a Cupcake Day to raise much needed funds for Alzheimer's Society.
 

In the average time it takes to bake a batch of cakes, six people in the UK will develop dementia. It is now the leading cause of death in the UK overtaking both cancer and heart disease. The tenants hope to 'bake a difference' by taking part in the Alzheimer's Society 'Cupcake Day'.
The successful day which was organised by the people living in Cullingtree Meadows, who raised over £90, will help to fund pioneering research, crucial support services and vital care. In hope to fight against the UK's biggest killer and raise awareness of dementia.

Cullingtree Meadows is a supported housing scheme especially designed for people living with dementia. With 24-hour specialist dementia care and support delivered by Belfast Health and Social Care Trust staff and tailored to each tenant's assessed needs, helping them live independently in their own apartment.

Nicola Neill, Scheme Co-ordinator at Cullingtree Meadows said;

"We had a lovely day - it's a wonderful way to get together with friends and neighbours and fundraise at the same time. Clanmil believes in promoting active ageing for tenants at our supported housing schemes and events like this help them stay busy and involved as well as raising money for a very worthwhile cause. The money we raised, will help the Alzheimer's Society to continue to be here for anyone affected by dementia - wherever they are, whatever they're going through."
