Clanmil Housing is celebrating success after The Savoy, Bangor was named Winner of the Residential Development category at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Regional Awards.

The prestigious award recognises an outstanding residential development, whether a single building or overall project, celebrating excellence in design, construction and delivery.

This latest accolade comes after the development was named Residential Development of the Year at the Belfast Telegraph Property Awards in November 2025 as well as winning the Social Housing Development category at this year’s Royal Society of Ulster Architects Awards earlier this year.

Completed in 2025, The Savoy development in the heart of Bangor, extends the historic Savoy complex with 26 new high-quality two-bedroom apartments for people aged 55 and over. The development combines contemporary, energy-efficient homes with Art Deco-inspired design that reflects the heritage of the original Savoy building, a former hotel built in 1932. The scheme also marked a significant milestone for Clanmil with the completion of its 6,000th home.

The award recognises the collaborative efforts of Clanmil Housing and its project partners, McGarry-Moon Architects Ltd and Derryleckagh Contracts Ltd, in delivering a development that successfully blends architectural heritage with modern, sustainable living.

The development now goes forward to represent Northern Ireland at the RICS UK Grand Final in London in October.

The development is supported by the Department for Communities and the Housing Executive’s ‘Housing for All’ Shared Housing Programme.   

The Programme has its origins in the NI Executive Together: Building a United Community Strategy which reflects the Executive’s commitment to improving community relations and continuing the journey towards a more united and shared society.  

A potential £2.8m of Housing Association Grant including Good Relations support will be invested in the shared housing development and associated five-year Good Relations Plan. Clanmil currently has 14 shared housing developments across Northern Ireland and is working in partnership with The Savoy Advisory Group stakeholders and with residents to develop the Good Relations plan as part of the development’s ‘shared’ ethos.
