The awards highlight the great talent involved in shaping the Northern Ireland built environment and in the Residential category the judges were on the look-out for an outstanding residential development.
Judges praised Balliniskea Heights at Northland Road in Derry for its excellent design and landscaping; the re-use of a former contaminated industrial site for much needed high-quality social housing including 22 apartments for the over 55s; the children's play park; and the sense of place and community which has been created.

Sustainable technologies were used in the design including mechanical ventilation with heat recovery units in the houses and apartments and photovoltaic panels on the roofs.
The project was delivered for Clanmil by Andrew G. Crawford & Company and MJ McBride Construction, with Gregory Architects winning the project following a design competition. Judges noted that their attention to high quality detailing and sustainability has been excellent.

Another Clanmil development was shortlisted in the residential category - Cullingtree Meadows in Belfast. This state-of-the-art scheme opened in June 2018 and is specially designed for people living with Dementia.

Carol McTaggart, Group Director of Development at Clanmil Housing, is delighted by the recognition these accolades bring. She said;

"It is fantastic to see the work of our teams recognised in this way. We are very proud of what we have achieved this year.

"At Clanmil we are passionate about great design and place shaping. This is at the centre of all of the homes we design and construct. We want Clanmil homes to be places where people and families are proud to live.

"These awards are also well-deserved acknowledgment for the design and construction teams who work with us to deliver homes and services that really meet the needs of our tenants and communities. Together we are delivering great homes that are welcoming to all."
