Major housing boost for Lisburn area as Council approves 210 new Clanmil homes Posted on 9 March 2026
Planning permission has been granted for 210 new high-quality Clanmil homes in Lisburn and Dromara representing an investment of more than £50m.

Planning approval has been received for three new Clanmil housing schemes in the Lisburn and Castlereagh Council area.
Together, the three developments will bring 210 much needed new social and private rental homes to Lisburn and Dromara, representing a combined investment of over £50m.
The first of the three schemes at Moybrick Road, Dromara, was approved at the February meeting of Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council’s Planning Committee. The development will provide 16 new social homes and is being delivered by Clanmil in partnership with our development partner.
The second scheme, approved by the Committee today, will see the site of the former Charles Hurst showroom on the Belfast Road in Lisburn regenerated in partnership with developer Lotus Homes to provide 60 high-quality new social homes and 15 homes for private rent.
Also approved today, was the development of an 8-acre site on the Ballinderry Road in Lisburn to provide 119 social and private rental homes in partnership with MJ McBride. The scheme will deliver a range of two, three and four bedroom houses, along with wheelchair adapted homes and apartments for families and people aged over 55. The approved proposal also includes high-quality landscaping, open spaces and a play park.
The new homes are being funded by Clanmil with support for the social homes from the Department for Communities via the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
Subject to planning agreements being signed, and grant funding being approved, construction on all three sites is anticipated to start by the end of March 2026.

Jan Sloan, Executive Director of Development and New Business at Clanmil Housing said:
“At Clanmil our purpose is to provide homes for people to live well, and we are delighted to receive planning approval for all three of our proposed developments in Lisburn and Castlereagh. These schemes will make a meaningful contribution towards addressing critical housing need in the area and are great news for people who are waiting for a good home.
“The developments also represent a major investment in Lisburn and Castlereagh and we are looking forward to getting started on site and to working closely with our development partners to deliver these much-needed homes.”

Michael McBride, Director at M.J. McBride Construction, co-applicant with Clanmil Housing for the Ballinderry Road scheme said:
"We are delighted that planning permission has been granted to deliver 119 much-needed homes for Lisburn.
We have worked closely with our design team, led by RPP Architects and Gravis Planning, alongside Clanmil Housing, elected representatives and the local community to bring forward a scheme that will integrate with the surrounding area and provide high-quality homes for local families. All houses will achieve an EPC A rating, providing residents with lower energy bills and a reduced carbon footprint.
MJ McBride has an excellent relationship with Clanmil Housing and we look forward to further strengthening our partnership as this project moves forward, with work expected to commence in the coming weeks."
